Benefits of Magnetic Rotary Encoder – Highly accurate and realible position detection
Environment-resistant IP65 magnetic rotary encoder CE56M from Midori
Digital encoder is a sensing device that converts motion to electric signals. An encoder sends feedback signals that can determines speed, count, position or direction. Even if both encoder and potentiometer are both electromechanical devices that can measure position, the biggest difference is that the potentiometer outputs analog signals whereas the encoder provides digital signals.
Generally speaking, an encoder has a longer life and more accurate than a potentiometer.
Magnetic rotary encoder is usually comprised of a magnet and a magnet-electric conversion element. The magnet is attached to the tip of a shaft. When shaft rotates, direction of the magnetic field is picked up by the magnetic electric conversion element. As the result, the encoder is able to output the position and speed of the shaft
Since the magnetic encoder is non-contact type and excellent in environment resistance, highly accurate and highly reliable position detection is possible.
In general, the magnetic rotary encoders have the following features.
